DR ROB'S STEM WORKSHOP

More than just an incursion.

Superhero Stories

100% authentic - real people, real experiences

Theo was always very excited to take part in the weekly STEM workshops led by Dr. Robert at the daycare. The creativity and enthusiasm he brought into the room were truly inspiring. Theo learned so much about technology, physics, and science through these sessions. The children affectionately called him “Doctor Robot,” which was both funny and fitting, as Dr. Robert taught them so much about robots. We truly appreciate the wonderful work he did with our children.

Diana and Kirill Smutov

Parents of a 4 year old Superhero

Robert delivers wonderful science workshops for children. The science topics he introduces are engaging and thoughtfully designed. One activity that really stood out was the experiment with images in water, where the drawings could only be seen by squatting down to look closely. This simple but clever setup encouraged curiosity, observation, and problem-solving. Throughout the workshop, the children were highly engaged, focused, and genuinely interested in the hands-on activities. They remained involved for over 20 minutes, which speaks volumes about how well the sessions are planned and delivered.

I highly recommend Robert’s science workshops to any childcare centre looking to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of science in young children.

I really liked the robots! Especially the Dash Robot 'cause it could talk, and the robot that went to the moon, and the Unicorn Robot. The workshops were lots of fun!

Sophia Marie

4 1/2 year old Superhero

The STEM workshop supported and extended children’s learning by building on their existing interests. Children were engaged in hands-on experiences that encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration

Bon really enjoyed the sensory activities at the Kensington workshops, especially play dough, drawing, and colouring. He loved exploring colourful materials and different textures, particularly in the sea animals workshop.

"Einstein was a preschooler too!"

Hi, I'm Dr Rob.

I hold a doctorate from the Department of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich. Currently, I lecture at the University of Bayreuth and Landshut University of Applied Sciences.

For nearly 25 years, I've navigated both worlds: On one side, I taught and mentored – from apprentices in IT to university students to doctoral candidates. On the other side, I led major research projects in Information Systems, worked in the area of software engineering and data mining, and managed teams within Germany's first digital ministry in Bavaria.

Throughout all these years – in academia, the private sector, and the public sector – I've learnt one thing: The most successful projects aren't driven by algorithms, but by curiosity, creativity, and confidence. These important qualities develop in early childhood.

When children build, tinker, or ask "Why?", they're practising exactly the skills our future needs. As a father to two young explorers, I see that spark every day. One day our children will fly to Mars and invent incredible AI robots we can't even imagine yet.

That's why early STEM education is so important – STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. These are "superpowers" to understand the world and build a better future.

I founded The EduTainment Company in 2025 to connect STEM education with early childhood play, making learning educational and entertaining. Let's work together to make Sydney the place where tomorrow's most amazing superheroes grow up!

Frequently Asked Questions

We aim to address common concerns and queries that parents, caregivers, and educators may encounter.

Every workshop is developed and led by Dr Rob (Dr. rer. nat. Robert Gerlit) - a university lecturer with a doctorate from TUM's Department of Computer Science and a parent who knows how to engage young children. Unlike other programs, we don't just send staff; we bring real academic expertise directly to your centre.

STEM is a superpower for everyone. Whether your child grows up to be a tradie, an artist, a lawyer, or an entrepreneur, the ability to ask "how does this work?" and "how can I make it better?" builds problem-solving skills for life. Scientific and digital literacy helps everyone navigate our digital world with confidence.

An incursion means we come to you. We deliver workshops directly to your preschool or early learning centre with all specialised equipment and robots. No need for parents to arrange transport or centres to organise expensive excursions.

While baking soda volcanoes are fun, children often see them as magic tricks. We move beyond entertainment to real science, technology, and engineering. Instead of one-off reactions, we teach the scientific method through play to solve practical challenges.

Our curriculum is broad, practical, and real-life oriented.

Science: Real experiments exploring physics and chemistry

Technology & Coding: Robots teaching logic and sequences

Engineering: Building and using tools

Maths: Applied concepts that make numbers feel like a game

We also adapt our workshops to fit with your preschool's curriculum. Whatever you need, we've got it: beach safety, marine biology, even writing secret messages to Santa with invisible ink that only scientists like Santa can read.

We use age-appropriate, hands-on robots specially designed for young children - no boring screens or complex syntax. Every activity is tailored for ages 3-6. If they can play with blocks, they can learn the logic of coding.

Our workshops are designed to be inclusive and play-based, focusing on storytelling and creativity to engage all children. We specifically address the fact that girls are often influenced by negative stereotypes about STEM and gender from a young age. By providing positive role models and a supportive environment, we help female students build confidence and overcome anxiety toward science, technology, engineering, and maths.

We follow a hands-on-first approach. Most of our toys are completely screen-free and controlled via simple buttons. We would occasionally use tablets for certain tools (e.g. selected robots), that are used as creative canvases to build something rather than for passive consumption. Technology is a tool for creating, not just watching.

Ages 3-6 are critical for brain development and forming an identity as a learner. If children decide early that something is "too hard" or "not for them," it's much harder to change that mindset later. By starting now, we build the confidence and curiosity they need to excel in school and beyond.

No prior knowledge needed. Whether your child is already a tech-wiz or has never seen a robot, our workshops are designed for all levels. We start with curiosity and build to complex logic through play.

We offer flexible sessions tailored to your centre's routine, typically 30-45 minutes per group. We recommend a maximum of 15 children per session to ensure high interaction and hands-on engagement for everyone.
